Microneedling

What is Microneedling?

At Frontier Dermatology we offer SkinPen Microneedling. Microneedling involves the use a pen-like tool containing many tiny microneedles. The microneedles are used to create tiny wounds beneath the skin to help with the transdermal delivery of hyaluronic acid which helps to heal the tissue, stimulate collagen production, and increase hydration. Microneedling is often used to improve common skin concerns such as:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Age spots
  • Acne marks
  • Rough texture
  • Stretch marks

What to Expect During Treatment with Microneedling

Before your microneedling treatment, your skin will be prepped and a numbing agent will be applied to maximize your comfort. Your aesthetician will then begin gliding the microneedling pen across the target areas of your face, creating tiny punctures in the skin.

After your treatment, a serum or cream may be applied to your skin to optimize results. A home care regimen will also be recommended in order to maintain your results.

Results and Recovery

Your skin might need some time to heal after your treatment with microneedling. Many patients experience mild redness and swelling, comparable to a sunburn. As you heal, your treatment area will go through several phases to produce healthier skin. Blood flow will increase in the area right away to begin the tissue production process. Next, the punctures are filled in with new collagen and elastin. Finally, stronger collagen takes its place, creating a structure and tightening the skin.

Is microneedling safe?

When performed by a qualified and experienced professional, microneedling is considered safe for most skin types. However, it's essential to follow pre- and post-procedure care instructions to minimize the risk of complications and ensure optimal results.

Who is a good candidate for microneedling?

Microneedling is suitable for most skin types and tones. However, it may not be suitable for individuals with certain medical conditions or skin conditions, such as active acne, eczema, or rosacea. A consultation with a qualified skincare professional can help determine if microneedling is right for you.

How soon will I see results from microneedling?

Results from microneedling can vary from person to person, but many people notice improvements in their skin's appearance within a few weeks after the procedure. Continued improvement can occur over several months as collagen production continues.
